“What I would say is, I feel like the ability to delegate and remove yourself from a business comes with age to a certain degree, because you’ve had so many dings for the last 15, 20 years of not doing that,” Patel said. “Once you actually get a taste of giving that responsibility to somebody else and being able to remove yourself and still get the task done, that is huge.”
He will encourage shop owners and business leaders to try delegating tasks and giving employees more responsibility. “Try it out, see what happens,” Patel said. “And one of the things that I recommend doing is we always talk about all of the positive things that happened. I actually want my leadership team to tell me, give me a list. Like, let’s do a retrospect and tell me all of the negative things that happened and what we’re going to do in the future to eventually not make sure they happen again. So that’s one of the things, the new things that we have adopted. And I think shop owners should do the same thing. Don’t let your employees be scared to make mistakes.”
